Improve English skills in speaking, writing, and listening in an informal setting with a native speaker. Students will gain confidence and boost future employability as skills improve. The course will include travel and cultural experiences offering opportunities to engage with a diversity of speakers.

From its inception, the United States has run the gamut of attitudes concerning diplomatic and military postures ranging from non-interventionist isolation to colonial and global hegemon. This course will frankly discuss the nature of U.S. diplomatic and military concerns and how they were dealt with by the powerful constitutional republic

Connie Marine

Faculty

Connie Marine is a native Alabamian who has taught English for more than 25 years at high school and college levels. Certified in TESOL, she has taught English as a Second Language in the U.S. and Hong Kong. She has been with UWA International Programs since its beginning in 2011.

Dr. Jeff Gentsch, a Professor of Military History at the University of West Alabama, earned his doctorate from the Department of War Studies, King’s College London, and has presented papers at the Institute of Historical Research, London, and the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. Since 1994, he has been an interpretative historian for Shiloh National Military Park, where he has conducted staff rides for the U.S. military and led hikes to commemorate the anniversary of the battle. Specializing in modern military history between 1859 and 1975, Gentsch holds a degree in geography which he integrates into his course methodology of political, economic, strategic, operational, and tactical analysis.
